As work on the store nears completion in a couple of weeks, it is easy to forget what the site looked like not so long ago. The selection of photos of mine in this post were taken on the 1st and 2nd November 2010, a year before this post was written, when the site really was looking sorry for itself. I for one certainly wouldn't have though that a Tesco store would almost be finished on the site one year on.
This is also where the work I have put into this project over the years pays off as you can look at the photos from the past and now and see how much the area has changed in what really is a short space of time.
Above is one of my personal fav photos from the project. It was taken on 2nd November 2010 looking west-east across the site. You can clearly see what an overgrown mess this part of the site in particular was in. This area is now the rear of the store.
Here is another view of the area of the site where the store has been built on. It looked like a big mess with a small space in the middle where an open space must have been when the holiday camp was fully operational pre-2000. The view here in November 2011 would now be of the rear of the retail (taller roof) area of the store.
This photo was also taken November 2nd 2010 looking towards the tramway and the youth centre. The site is on the left. Today the trees are gone, the land has been raised and the western side of the store rises up and overlooks out above the car park.
This photo above was taken on the 2nd November 2010, looking from west to east towards Haven cliff in the background. The overgrown 'wilderness' had just been cut down, looking more like a debris field that had been ploughed. One year on, if I took a photo from this spot again, we would be looking at the western side of the store.
One of the close ups I took of the exterior of the youth centre building. This was one of the lights which had been broken and left to rust in the elements.
Above is one of the spots that I have shot from regularly over the duration of the project. This was the access road to the nursery. Now the view from here is a retaining wall directly in front, with a footpath from Harbour road to the store bearing off to the left of the image and up a gentle incline.
The photo above was taken from bay court looking at the south side of the site, as it was in it's untouched state last year (2010) This area is now the road junction linking Harbour road to the development and eventually the residential area.
The photo above was taken looking at the area surrounding the youth centre. Over the next month I will shoot from this spot again as the view has completely changed, with the hedge, trees and youth centre building gone. The open plan 'realm' area now takes its place with the Tesco store sitting in the background.
